The City of Sault Ste. Marie is located in the Heart of the Great Lakes, and is in the Centre of Canada.  We are an International city located on the Canada/U.S.A border between Lake Superior and Lake Huron.  The city is strategically located where the Trans-Canada Highway and the four lane Interstate-75 meet, linking Canada with the U.S.A.  Cities such as Toronto, Ottawa, London, Niagara Falls, Sarnia, Windsor, Thunder Bay, Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis are all within an easy one-day drive.

Sports are something that both the City of Sault Ste. Marie and its residents take great pride in.  Since 1990, the city has hosted a multitude of international sporting events including the Labatt Brier (1990), Memorial Cup (1993), National Gymnastics Championship, 2000 Ontario Winter Games, and the 2001 Ontario Special Olympics Summer Games.  All of these events have assisted in maintaining the diverse culture that the City of Sault Ste. Marie is known for.  Undoubtedly through the creation of the ESSAR Centre we will further be able to provide the citizens of both Sault Ste.
